How do I prevent cavities?

You can help prevent cavities by following these tips: Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Floss daily or use an interdental cleaner. Eat nutritious and balanced meals and limit snacking. Check with your dentist about use of supplemental fluoride, which strengthens your teeth, and about use of dental sealants (a plastic protective coating) applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from decay. Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral examination

Essential Dental Care can be broken down into 2 categories:

  • Home Care
  • Dental Check Up
Home care or Essential Care involves brushing and flossing the teeth in order to remove plaque and tartar. We now recommend the Sonicare Toothbrush to help in an effective home care program. Often patients have questions about their home care.

A dental check up usually invteeth. olves visiting the hygienist every 6 months, although some patients may be placed on a yearly check up. The hygienist removes tartar and stain from the teeth and she and the dentist check for decay, periodontal disease, broken restorations, oral cancer, and other dental problems which might arise. X-rays are taken yearly to identify hidden problems between the teeth and with the supporting structures of the teeth.
